CARMICHAEL, CA - A man wanted on weapons and hit and run charges in the state of Washington turned himself in to law enforcement following a standoff at a Carmichael apartment complex Monday afternoon.
Deputy Jason Ramos with the Sacramento County Sheriff's Department said the suspect ran into the complex around 11:45 a.m. while evading U.S. Marshals. The complex was placed on lockdown while authorities searched for the individual.
The SWAT team was called to the scene around 12:55 p.m. to assist.
Nearby Mission Avenue Elementary school in Carmichael was placed on shelter status with classroom doors locked while instruction continued.
About 2:20 p.m., the suspect surrendered to authorities without incident. Ramos said the man, who was scraped-up from jumping from apartment balcony to balcony, would be medically evaluated before being booked into jail.
