NORTH HIGHLANDS, CA - 30,000 properties were without power in North Highlands Friday morning after vandalisms at two SMUD locations caused major outages.

SMUD spokesman Clint Swett said vandals hit two SMUD substations just after midnight. The first vandalism affected 17,000 people and the second rendered 12,000 powerless for a period of time.

Both acts of vandalism resembled one another so SMUD suspected they were committed by the same person or people, said Swett.

Power was restored to the affected areas around 5 a.m.
