STOCKTON, CA - A 16 year old girl was abducted while at the community mailbox near her home in the 2500 block of Hydrangea Drive in Stockton Monday.
According to a Stockton police report, the teen said she was standing near the mailbox around 7 p.m. when a black, 90s-era car with two men inside pulled up next to her.
The man in the passenger seat suddenly pulled her into the vehicle.
According to the girl's statement, she was taken to an area near railroad tracks and while the men were taking her out of the car, a man pushing a shopping cart in the area noticed the commotion.
Lt. Tom Jernigan with the Stockton Police Department said the man yelled at the two abductors, distracting them enough for the girl to escape and run home.
Jernigan said police believe the heroic man was homeless, but they could not find him to confirm.
The two suspected kidnappers were described as black men, approximately 18-30 years of age. Police said they believe the men were attempting to sexually abuse the girl.
Jernigan said police would continue to investigate the incident. They have not been able to pinpoint the location of the attempted assault near the railroad tracks.
