Turlock elementary fire out; students all OK

TURLOCK, CA - Students at Crowell Elementary School in Turlock are safe after a fire started in the attic of a classroom under construction Tuesday afternoon.

No children were in the room, said Lt. Nino Amirfar with the Turlock Police Department.

The fire was first reported at 1:39 p.m. and the school was evacuated. All children were accounted for in the school's safe zone, Amirfar said.

The fire was extinguished.

Parents were directed to pick up their children at West Hawkeye and North Palm streets behind the school.

The cause of the fire and extent of damage was not immediately known.

Crowell Elementary will be in session Wednesday.
