Palgiaro contributed tips on resume writing and networking, and you can check out her resume example.
Resume
- Research the skills required for the job you are seeking (thoroughly read the job description if available).
- Include these skills in the summary statement and highlight of skills at the top of the resume.
- Create a list of accomplishment statements that reflect these skills at the top of the resume.
Networking
- Develop a "positioning statement" that summarizes your area of expertise and experience. Practice saying this statement until you are comfortable using it.
- Research 30-40 companies that would be apt to need your skills.
- Infiltrate those companies by talking to people who might know something about these companies and gather data. Data gathering might be with family, friends, people who work in these companies, former co-workers, former bosses, etc.
- Learn how to use social media such as LinkedIn for networking/data gathering.
