The American Red Cross is receiving a $2.3 million donation to assist in Superstorm Sandy relief efforts courtesy of a fairly unlikely source: players of Blizzard's online computer game World of Warcraft.
Throughout the month of December, all WoW players who purchased the Cinder Kitten in-game pet helped out the victims of Superstorm Sandy. Blizzard, the game's developer and publisher, put 100% of the pet's $10.00 "adoption fee" towards assisting the victims of the natural disaster.
Blizzard says the $2.3 million in support will enable the Red Cross to provide shelter, food, emotional support, and other assistance to victims of the storm.
