SACRAMENTO, CA - Mary Chapman is a wife, mother, grandmother and a witch.
Chapman is a third-generation witch, and is usually referred to as a High Priestess. She fielded questions from curious viewers during Tuesday's Live_Online.
Chapman was born and raised in Salt Lake City, Utah, where her mother was Mormon and her father was Catholic. At the age of 18, she underwent the initiation to become a witch by a Native American woman. However, she learned her great grandmother on her father's side practiced witchcraft while growing up in Italy, as did her grandmother.
Many of viewers wanted to know what "qualifies" Chapman to be a witch, and what does it mean to be a witch. She said she believes people are born with the craft and the belief to learn, live and love earth. She said people may think of witches as evil, but that is more of a Hollywood protrayal.
Chapman said there are such things as casting spells and magic by building a focus of energy to cause change, but in a positive way.
She says she will celebrate Halloween, or Samhain, which is the Celtic term, by focusing on loved ones who have passed, doing a ritual and celebrating.
