SACRAMENTO, CA - Sacramento police have arrested a man in the fatal shooting of a 22-year-old man in the parking lot of a Natomas restaurant early Saturday morning.

Sacramento Police Department spokesman Officer Konrad von Schoech said gang detectives took Nicholas Newsome, 20, into custody for the murder of David Blanks. Blanks was fatally shot in the parking lot of the Center Court restaurant on the 3600 block of N. Freeway Boulevard about 1:50 Saturday morning.

von Schoech said Newsome was apprehended without incident at a movie theater on Arden Way late Sunday night.

Witnesses told police Blanks was walking to his car when he was confronted by a group of people. Gang-related words were exchanged and a person in the group pulled a gun and shot Blanks. Sgt. Norm Leong said there were hundreds of witnesses in the area at the time of the shooting.

Newsome was booked into Sacramento County Main Jail.
