SACRAMENTO, CA - While the DTV signal switch went very smoothly for most valley residents, many have run into trouble -- all because of their antennas.

To get DTV broadcasts, TV owners need an antenna designed to receive both VHF channels (2-13) and UHF channels (14 and higher).

DTV: Find out all you need to know about the Digital Television switch

That's because many digital stations are actually broadcast in the UHF band, even though you can tune thim in at the "virtual" channel number you've always used.

In Sacramento, KCRA and KOVR signals that used to show up on channels 3 and 13 can now be accessed in the UHF band, while News10 and KVIE Ch. 6 remained at their original VHF positions.

Bay Area TV stations also are mixed with VHF and UHF signals and viewers in that area will also need an all-around antenna that receives UHF and VHF.

If you currently use a UHF-only antenna, you will not receive News10 programming. To fix the problems, owners must purchase an all-channel antenna.

Viewers can buy the all-channel UHF/VHF antennas at any electronics store and prices start at about $20.
