SACRAMENTO, CA - Did you know 22 percent of energy used in your home goes to lighting?
All the more reason to turn off lights or use energy-saving lamps. There is actually a place on the campus of UC Davis which researches light. It is called the California Lighting Technology Center (CLTC) and it is only one of three such centers in the country.
CLTC conducts research, development and application of energy-efficient lighting.
Kelly Cunningham, Outreach Coordinator at CLTC joined Live_Online Tuesday. She said there are many ways to save lighting energy in your home. One of the easiest is by replacing many of your incandescent lamps with Compact Fluorescent Lamps (CFL). Cunningham said not all CFLs are created equal and that is why some consumers may be experiencing quality and longevity issues. She recommended reading the label on CFLs. Also, you should buy bulbs certified under the government's Energy Star Program.
