SACRAMENTO, CA - A mail carrier saved a 19-month-old girl who had stopped breathing by performing a rescue technique he learned by watching reality TV.
Robert Sweeny, 50, was delivering mail Thursday on his Natomas route when a woman ran from her home screaming that her baby had stopped breathing.
Sweeny said he had no formal CPR training but had seen it performed on television.
"I knew not to push hard down on the baby's chest," he said.
Sweeny began chest compressions and was joined by a man who had been working on a vacant house across the street.
By the time paramedics arrived, the child was foaming at the mouth, but breathing on her own.
Kelly Jimenez remained hospitalized Friday at the UC Davis Medical Center, but her father told News10 she's doing well.
Doctors told the family their daughter suffered a seizure and they're not sure why.
Sweeny seemed embarrassed by all the attention Friday, but was pleased to hear the child was OK.
