SACRAMENTO COUNTY, CA - The vandalism is so prominent, you can see it a block away. And the target of the anti-Obama graffiti is prominent himself in local political circles.
Greg Larkins, chair of Sacramento's Democratic Party, said he came home Sunday night to find the anti-Obama message scrawled in black spray paint across his garage door.
"Obama's Ship of Fools" reads the graffiti, in letters large enough to cover the white two-car garage door. Larkins said an Obama lawn sign was also taken from his front yard. He had been gone from his home since Saturday.
"Yeah, I noticed it this morning when I walked by," said one neighbor. "That's ugly. Why would somebody do that?"
"In this time, we should be coming together as Americans in the healing of our country. We will not let intolerance like this divide us or limit our First Amendment rights," Larkins said in a prepared statement.
It's not uncommon for political signs to disappear or be defaced during the election season, but vandalism at this level is unusual. Area leaders from both major parties condemned the vandalism.
The graffiti is more noticeable because Larkins' house sits across from Chardonay Park in the Foothill Farms area. That position makes the scrawled message visible not just as you drive by the house, but from streets surrounding the neighborhood park.
Two labor leaders have personally posted a combined $1,000 reward for information leading to the arrest of the vandals.
