STOCKTON, CA -- High levels in the Calaveras River caught a man off guard Tuesday morning and prompted a rescue by the Stockton Fire Department.
Crews received word just after 8 a.m. of man stuck on a small island in the middle of the river near Stagg High School.
Stockton Fire Department spokesman Paul Willette said the man, who was a transient, had been living on the island and was taken by surprise by the high river flows.
Other than being wet and cold, the man was OK.
