TRIPOLI, Libya (AP) - The Libyan government says three people were killed and 45 injured when NATO airstrikes today hit a compound where leader Moammar Gadhafi has an official residence.
But a spokesman describes Moammar Gadhafi as "healthy" and "in high spirits."
The guided bombs destroyed a library and office, while also damaging a reception hall at the compound. Earlier, a security official told reporters that only four people had been slightly injured.
The spokesman says the government considers the strike an assassination attempt on Gadhafi and "an act of terrorism."
Gadhafi's whereabouts at the time of the attack are unclear, but the spokesman says the Libyan leader is not in hiding.
Meanwhile, the struggle between Gadhafi's forces and rebels remains at a stalemate. The rebels control most of eastern Libya, while Gadhafi is trying to keep control of the western half of the country.
The fight in the western city of Misrata has been a focal point in recent days. The rebels have driven Gadhafi's troops out of the besieged city, but the government forces continue shelling. A doctor in Misrata says the latest bombardment hit a residential area, killing 10 people.
