LODI, CA - For the second time in recent weeks, the Lodi Grape Bowl facility was robbed of wiring.
The most recent incident took place this past weekend, when about 500 feet of cooper wire connecting the press box and scoreboard was somehow stolen.
"I doubt they had the power to pull it. They hooked it up to a bumper or something like that and pulled it out of the conduit," project manager Justin Stabe said.
Located on S. Pacific Street, the Grape Bowl is an older stadium that hosts high school football, graduations, and other events. It's being renovated to become more accessible to people with disabilities as well as seeing the addition of a new turf field.
Because the stadium has fencing around it, it's not clear how the thieves gained access.
"We don't know how they got in or when. If we put it (wiring) back, they can take it out again," said Stabe.
The value of stolen wiring is about $40,000. Sprinkler heads and electrical panels were also damaged.
Despite the possibility of delays for adding replacement wiring, job site managers were confident the Grape Bowl upgrades will be finished for the upcoming high school football season.
