Olivehurst Naumes industrial building fire, June 25, 2010
YUBA COUNTY, CA - Firefighters kept busy Friday night putting out a large fire at a Naumes Inc. fruit and orchard company industrial building in Olivehurst.
The blaze broke out at 8:10 p.m. at the building located at 3740 Feather River Boulevard.
Yuba County Sheriff's Department spokeswoman Melanie Oakes said about 40 people were evacuated from a nearby convalescent home and residences. The evacuation order was lifted around 11:10 p.m.
The American Red Cross set up an evacuation center at Yuba College in the gymnasium.
Crews successfully controlled the blaze from reaching a refrigeration unit containing ammonia inside of the burning building, Oakes said.
Yuba County Sheriff's Department Sgt. Wencel Kemp said three firefighters were treated for heat exhaustion.
There was no early word on how the fire started.
Several residents called News10 to report the sky was filled with smoke.
The California Highway Patrol diverted traffic from Plumas Arboga Road to Ella Avenue and media crews were not allowed to get close to the burning building area.
