BENICIA, CA - A motorcyclist traveling at speeds over 100 miles per hour led area law enforcement on a high speed pursuit from the Sierra to the Bay area during the nearly 2-hour chase Thursday, according to California Highway Patrol officials.
The chase began in Truckee just after 2 p.m. when Truckee CHP spotted Pedro Alberto Sermeno speeding on westbound Interstate 80, CHP spokesman Marvin Williford said.
Sermeno, 26, wouldn't stop for the officers, instead continuing down I-80 as CHP units from Gold Run, north Sacramento, Woodland and Solano all joined the chase as it wove through five counties.
The chase finally ended when a CHP helicopter and plane followed Sermeno to an address near Turner Road in Benicia, said Williford. Sermeno was arrested just before 4 p.m. and booked into the Solano County Jail on reckless driving charges.
Williford said it was unclear what prompted Sermeno to flee police. A check showed Sermeno had a valid license and no outstanding warrants. Drugs and alcohol did not appear to play a factor in the chase.
