SACRAMENTO, CA - Before it's time to settle down to a hearty Thanksgiving dinner, many people like to make the pilgrimage to a local park or ice skating rink to carry on with their annual traditions.

At least five different football games were going on simultaneously Thursday on the playing fields at Sacramento's Land Park. Pulled hamstrings come before pulled ham on Thanksgiving.

In midtown Sacramento, an ice rink has replaced the street on 20th and K streets. Only a few made it onto the ice before noon, but that meant room for the novice skaters to roam.

Across town, about 10 people were camped out in front of the Best Buy store on Arden Way. This has become a tradition for many who want to get the "early bird" prices when the stores open on "Black Friday," the day after Thanksgiving.

The annual "Run to Feed the Hungry" race on the streets of Sacramento has become an annual event for thousands. In the front yard of a home in east Sacramento, a rock band serenaded those who ran by.

To many, the rituals of Thanksgiving are as much a part of the holiday as the feast that follows. So is being thankful, say many.
