SACRAMENTO, CA - Ticha Penicheiro sat down with News10 Sports' Bryan May in an exclusive interview to talk about the Maloofs' decision to shutdown the Sacramento Monarchs.
Penichiero heard the bad news on Friday morning after talking to Head Coach and General Manager John Whisenant on the phone.
"So I sat in my chair for like an hour. Just on the phone. I mean nobody was expecting it," said Penichiero. "It just came out of the blue. It is very sad."
The 12-year Monarchs veteran is sure that she and her teammates will continue to play basketball, either with another team, or if the Monarchs move to the Bay Area. But what saddens her is not being able to say goodbye to her fans and the city of Sacramento.
"I've already played my last game at ARCO Arena. I will never play there again," said an emotional Penicheiro. "I played with my Sacramento Monarchs jersey for the last time on Sept. 13th. And I probably played with my teammates for the last time. That's the stuff that bothers me."
