WASHINGTON (AP) -- The Treasury Department says suppliers providing auto parts to General Motors have returned $140 million in bailout money.
Treasury said the $140 million was part of $2.5 billion provided to an umbrella group helping GM's parts suppliers. The money came from the government's $700 billion bailout fund.
A similar group set up to help Chrysler suppliers still has $1 billion in support. The Obama administration in April announced it was setting aside $5 billion from the bailout fund to help companies that supplied GM and Chrysler while the automakers went through bankruptcy filings. The total was later adjusted down to $3.5 billion.
