Art Savage bought the team when it was based in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada in 1998 and moved them to Vancouver, British Columbia in 1999. In 2000 he moved them to West Sacramento and renamed them the River Cats. He built a brand new stadium - known as Raley Field for the team.
A statement released by the River Cats read:
"The entire River Cats family is shocked and deeply saddened by the passing of Art Savage. Art was an extraordinary person who's dedication to his community was only surpassed by his commitment to his own family. All those who were lucky enough to have had their lives touched by Art were far better because of it. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Savage family during this incredibly difficult time."
