SACRAMENTO, CA - Two Sacramento County H1N1 flu vaccination clinics scheduled for Friday and Saturday have been cancelled amid weather and parking concerns, Sacramento County Public Health officials announced Thursday.
The clinics had been set to take place Friday at the Sam Pannell Community Center, 2450 Meadowview Road; and Saturday at Town and Country Lutheran Church, 4049 Marconi Avenue.
But with a wet, windy winter storm expected to push through Sacramento starting Friday, public health officials wanted to make sure no one waiting for the vaccination would be put at risk.
"Our foremost concern is for the safety of the public," said Sacramento County Health officer Dr. Glennah Trochet. "Friday's forecast calls for soaking rain and gusty winds, which would make the outdoor wait for flu shots miserable and unsafe on slippery sidewalks."
Trochet said Sacramento area clinic turnout was so heavy for the first several events that problems with available parking were likely to become an issue at smaller venues like Town and Country.
"We are going to re-evaluate each site we have chosen for our clinics and make sure that parking is appropriate for the expected turnout," said Trochet.
Events set for Monday at the First Covenant Church, 10933 Progress Court, in Rancho Cordova; as well as Tuesday's clinic at the La Sierra Community Center, 5325 Engle Road, in Carmichael would continue as planned.
