BUTTE COUNTY, CA - Health officials in Butte County are reporting their first death linked to the H1N1 virus.
Thursday afternoon, Butte County health officer William Lundburg said a 65-year-old man from the county had died in connection with the flu.
Lundburg reported that the man had multiple underlying health conditions as well, but had contracted the pandemic H1N1 flu.
"His death is a sad reminder that the pandemic H1N1 flu, while usually causing minor to moderate illness, can lead to serious illness and death for some people," Lundburg said.
So far this year in Butte County, there have been 146 people confirmed H1N1 cases. Lundberg said information about Butte County H1N1 resources were available on the county's Web site.
The county said Thursday that individual health care providers that ordered the vaccine have been given their shipments.
