SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) -- Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger has appointed one of his cabinet secretaries to a top administration post as he prepares to enter his final year in office.
Schwarzenegger on Wednesday named Fred Aguiar as deputy chief of staff and senior adviser, a $175,000-a-year position that had been unfilled since last year.
Aguiar is leaving his job as secretary of the State and Consumer Services Agency. The governor also named the agency's undersecretary, Scott Reid, as cabinet secretary, which pays $147,900.
Schwarzenegger spokesman Aaron McLear says both are subject to three furlough days a month, which amount to a 14 percent pay cut.
He says monthly payroll on the governor's staff has fallen by $400,000 since November 2007.
