STOCKTON, CA - Though public health clinics for the H1N1 virus happened throughout San Joaquin County last week and brought out long lines, no more clinics are scheduled for the area, public health officials announced Tuesday.

"It's a frustrating situation. The CDC had hoped to have twice as much vaccine available by now that has been shipped. We have to hope in the coming weeks, that more vaccine will come," said Public Health officer Dr. Karen Furst.

Similar Sacramento County H1N1 vaccination clinics were also seeing heavy traffic and long lines this week.

Furst said the vaccine isn't being developed as quickly as researchers had hoped. People hoping to be vaccinated for H1N1 are encouraged to find avenues other than public health facilities.

"There are some providers in the community who have the vaccine now. If a physician has ordered flu vaccine, people need to wait until their doctor's supply has come in. From what we're told, people should be getting supplies in the next several weeks," said Furst.

Furst said she understands the public interest in the vaccine, noting there were just three signficant flu pandemics in the 20th century.

"You can see they don't come very often. This is a pretty unique situation," she said.
