STOCKTON, CA - H1N1 flu vaccination clinics in San Joaquin County were suspended Friday until more doses of the vaccine were available, county public health officials announced.
"We are sorry that we need to suspend our H1N1 influenza clinics for now. We will notify the public when vaccine is again available," San Joaquin County Public Health officer Dr. Karen Furst said.
While special H1N1 influenza vaccination clinics were put on hold until further notice, Furst said those who attended previous public health clinics and received a return slip would be seen. The move came three days after San Joaquin County leaders declared an H1N1 flu emergency for the county.
More than 50 clinics, hospitals, and physicians throughout San Joaquin County received shipments of the vaccine. Furst said the primary focus of the public health clinics was to vaccinate those who did not have health insurance.
Friday morning, hundreds of people showed up for the H1N1 vaccine at the public health clinic at 300 W. Oak Street in Lodi -- and the large response surprised public health workers.
San Joaquin County public health officials told News10's Tim Daly that they were caught off-guard by the response.
More nurses and more doses of the vaccine were dispatched to the afternoon clinic to help handle the demand.
