CALAVERAS COUNTY, CA - A badly decomposed body found in the Mokelumne River last weekend was positively identified Wednesday as a Stockton man missing for over five months, according to officials.

The body found west of the Salt Springs Reservoir along the Calaveras-Amador county line Sunday was identified as Steven Leslie Sid of Stockton, the Calaveras County Coroners Office confirmed Wednesday.

Sid, 52, was last seen in June near the area where the body was found Sunday afternoon.

Authorities arrived at the scene Sunday after a caller reported finding a human leg in the water in a remote location,

Amador County Undersheriff Jim Wegner said. Investigators found the leg, then located the rest of the body nearby.

Sid disappeared June 7 after going for a walk while on a camping trip with friends. A week of searching across the area turned up no sign of the former Stockton Unified School District employee.

Sid's wife told the Stockton Record in June that foul play may be involved in her husband's disappearance.
