SACRAMENTO, CA - Detectives have arrested a 24-year-old man in connection with a gruesome discovery of a man and woman's decomposed bodies Friday afternoon near a home on 39th Street, according to authorities.
Sacramento County Sheriff's Department spokesman Sgt. Tim Curran said enough evidence was found to arrest Douglas Elmore, 24, for the murders of the two victims believed to be Tammula Robbins, 23, and her boyfriend Shawn Cope, 24.
Both had been reported missing on Oct. 13 by Robbins' mother. The coroner's office has yet to positively identify the bodies.
Curran said deputies received information that led them to finding Elmore in Fairfield where he was taken into custody without incident around 2 a.m. Sunday.
Elmore was reportedly staying at the home on 39th Street where the victims lived. Detectives believe the murders occurred days before Robbins and Cope were reported missing.
A motive for the killings had yet to be determined, Curran said. The investigation is ongoing and Curran said detectives were looking into other possible arrests connected to the case.
Detectives spent Friday night investigating the disturbing scene at the residence in the area of Fruitridge Road and Martin Luther King Boulevard after neighbors reported a foul odor.
Curran said officers discovered a woman's body in a field near the home on 39th Avenue and 32nd Street. Later in the evening, the scene grew more disturbing when officers found a second body, stuffed in a garbage can inside the home.
Curran said an unidentified man allegedly wheeled a garbage can from the 5700 block of 39th Street, a short distance from the field, and dumped the woman's body. The man was contacted and taken in for questioning by detectives.
