STANISLAUS COUNTY, CA - The trial of Columbus Allen, Jr., charged in the murder a California Highway Patrol officer three and a half years ago, has been moved to Sacramento County.
Officer Earl Scott was gunned down during a traffic stop in the early morning hours of Feb. 17, 2006.
Prosecutors say responding officers found Scott on the side of the road on Highway 99, south of Hammett Road near Salida, holding registration papers that belonged to Allen's wife.
A jury consultant for Allen's defense team found that nearly two-thirds of potential jurors in Stanislaus County believe Allen is guilty.
Allen's trial is scheduled to start Jan. 12, 2010, in Sacramento County Superior Court. The trial is estimated to last four months, according to Stanislaus County Superior Court.
