SACRAMENTO, CA - Nightlife in Sacramento's Midtown neighborhood was a bit more subdued Friday, three days after the hit and run death of a beloved nightclub security guard.
The man accused in the death of the midtown Sacramento security guard had his first court appearance Friday.
Michael Weisz, 23, is facing one count of murder with intent and use of a deadly weapon.
That weapon is the 2005 Toyota Scion Weisz was driving the night he allegedly ran over Leroy "Pops" Fisher, 67.
Weisz is also accused of failing to remain at the scene of an accident.
An attorney for Fisher's family said they wanted to express their gratitude to the community for its support and request that people not try to retaliate for "Pops" death.
"Unfortunately, there were problems, and the driver did have to be removed (from the bar where Fisher worked) and there were some people who were upset about that and we just want to make sure that everybody calms down and lets the judicial system take its course," said attorney Kevin M. Healey.
Weisz will be back in court on Oct. 9.
Nightclub owners say while the incident was isolated, they plan to beef up security this weekend to calm patrons.
"My bosses are possiblty looking into improving security cameras outside the club too, " said Badlands Nightclub employee, Brad Tompkins.
Meanwhile, Leroy Fisher's family is making funeral arrangements and asking for the public's help. Anyone who wishes to make a donation can do so at any US Bank branch under the Leroy "Pops" Fisher Memorial Trust.
