WATERFORD, CA - The driver of a car who died when her vehicle plunged into the city of Waterford's sewage treatment plant Friday night was identified Monday by authorities as Alicia Hair-Congrer, 26, of Turlock.

Stanislaus County Sheriff's Department Deputy Andrew Winter said a woman driver was speeding when she hit another car around 7:10 p.m. Friday at the intersection of Highway 132 and Western Avenue. The driver and passengers in the other car were not injured in the crash.

Witnesses told officers after the collision, the woman continued driving and eventually lost control about five minutes later.

Winter said she drove off the road, her car falling down a 150-foot embankment and into the sewage pond located at 335 South Western Avenue. Rescuers and emergency responders could not reach the woman and pull out her vehicle. A specially-equipped tow truck was called in to assist. The driver's body and vehicle were hauled out of the pond about 1 a.m. Saturday, Winter said.
