GALT, CA - Republican Congressman Dan Lungren of Gold River held a town hall meeting at Galt High School Saturday, speaking in front of a modest crowd that kept him busy with questions throughout the 90-minute meeting.
Most questions focused on health care plans currently being considered in the House and Senate.
"I am encouraged about the fact that people are feeling comfortable about coming out to these and expressing their point of view," said Lungren.
One of the most talked-about health care points was the public option, which Lungren indicated he is against if it means requiring people to pay for health insurance.
Chris Orrock of Elk Grove shares a similiar concern.
"Is it constitutional for them to say, if I don't want to pay for the public option, then I'm going to have to pay a fine or a fee on my taxes by not having it?" said Orrock. "I just don't think that's right."
According to the White House Web site, the public option would be just that: an option. The White House says it would create more competition between private health care companies and a government-run program, and it may also lower costs.
