LODI, CA - A Lodi jail counselor has been charged with sexual assault and making a criminal threat.

Michael O' Riley was arrested Thursday after officers went to his home in response to a 911 call. Lodi Police Department spokesman Cpl. Dale Eubanks said O'Riley's 44-year-old wife told officers that O'Riley had sexually abused her, threatened her and denied her food and money for nearly 22 months. Officers recovered nine firearms from O'Riley and took him into custody.

O'Riley is a counselor at Rio Consumnes Correctional Center in Sacramento County. Eubanks said subsequent to O'Riley's arrest, search warrants were served at his place of work and at his home. Officers recovered three additional guns, ammunition, video tapes and computers, Eubanks said, adding the tapes and computers had not yet been reviewed.

Eubanks said since Aug. 21, officers had responded to 10 calls to the O'Riley home. In four of them, Eubanks said the victim said the couple was just arguing and didn't report any kind of attack or injury. Officers did not see any injury to her, Eubanks said. The other calls, in which the victim was alone at home, did not involved any kind of abuse, Eubanks said.

O'Riley was charged with one count of making a criminal threat, two counts of forced oral copulation and two counts of sexual penetration with a foreign or unknown object in Lodi Superior Court on Friday.

His bail was increased to $950,000 and he was remanded to San Joaquin County Main Jail.

O'Riley's next court appearance is Sept. 8.

The victim was removed to an undisclosed safe location.
