SACRAMENTO, CA - Many job seekers wonder, can you really get a job from all the job fairs going on in the region?

"The answer is yes," says Stephanie Harris of the California Job Journal. The Job Journal sponsors a hiring event along with the Sacramento Business Journal Tuesday noon to 4 p.m. at the Sacramento Convention Center.

Harris knows firsthand about job opportunities at these types of events because she got a job more than two years ago by attending a job fair.

She said the key is to dress for success, bring an updated resume without typos, and most importantly, be agressive with a positive attitude. Your optimism will set you apart from the pack.

Joanna Wessman, publisher of the Sacramento Business Journal suggested also looking at perhaps starting your own business, and look at non-traditional places to be your own boss.

Also, said Wessman, you must have a strong belief in the product you are selling. "If you are being forced to make choices, now's the time to find passion in those choices," she said.

One viewer asked whether they should list references on their resume. Harris said she didn't see anything wrong with that, and it saves the prospective employer time asking for those references down the road.

On the other hand, Wessman said it may make her wonder if they are hiding something by providing ready-made references. She said she may also choose to make her own calls with different references.

Two dozen companies were expected at the job fair, with about 500 different positions available to fill.
