CITRUS HEIGHTS, CA - The baseball team at San Juan High School now has to replace some expensive equipment.

When a parent and his son showed up Wednesday morning to replace a damaged door to the snack bar, they walked into a big mess. Vandals ransacked the dugouts, walked off with some pricey gear and left graffiti scrawled in their wake.

The varsity baseball coach and parents were still taking inventory Wednesday, but estimates to replace the stolen equipment was running high. The missing pitching machine and baseball bats were worth around $5,000.

But the thefts weren't all the San Juan High School baseball team and its supporters must contend with.

For a team that takes pride in mowing, chalking and maintaining their own field, the team now must repaint dugouts and other buildings covered with graffiti. Among the repairs: repainting, replacing some broken doors and fixing a damaged riding mower.

Photojournalist Damien Espinoza met up with the coach and the parent who found the mess and has more here.
