REDDING, CA (AP) -- A series of wildfires sparked by a weekend lightning storm in Northern California continued to threaten hundreds of homes, but no mandatory evacuation orders were in place.
Officials said crews battling fires in Lassen National Forest have limited access to the blaze because of the steep terrain.
The fires had burned about 7.2 square miles by Wednesday morning and were 15 percent contained. Voluntary evacuations have been issued for 130 structures in the Hat Creek and Old Station communities and campgrounds in the area.
Officials said another 120 homes remained threatened at a nearby complex of fires in Shasta County, where wildfires have charred nearly 12 square miles. Those blazes were 18 percent contained.
To the south, crews have gotten a better handle on an 8-square-mile Stanislaus National Forest fire burning since July 26. That blaze was 50 percent contained by Wednesday morning.
