CITRUS HEIGHTS, CA - Two Mesa Verde High School students were arrested and face sexual assault charges after a girl reported she was attacked on the school campus Thursday, a Citrus Heights police spokesman said.
Citrus Heights officers were called by the victim's parent about the assault near the school's handball courts on the Carriage Drive campus just after 5:20 p.m. Thursday, Citrus Heights police Lt. Eric Mattke said. The victim was not seriously injured and was not transported to a hospital.
Mattke said the girl, also a student at the high school, recognized the alleged attackers and the boys were arrested Friday.
The pair, who were not identified because of their age, were booked into the Sacramento County Juvenile Hall on sexual assault charges.
Details about what led to the attack or whether there were any witnesses to the incident were not disclosed.
The school sent a letter to parents Friday, notifying them of the assault.
