DAVIS, CA - Holmes Junior High School in Davis opens for classes Monday after Yolo County health officials determined a student at the school was not infected with the H1N1 flu.

In a posting on the Davis Joint Unified District Web site Sunday, superintendent Dr. James Hammond said Yolo County Health Officer Dr. Joe Iser notified the district that the probable case of H1N1 at Holmes was "definitely negative."

"At this district and at this school, I think (parents and faculty) should be at ease at this point," said Iser.

Iser rescinded a previous order issued Friday that would have forced the campus to remain closed this week after a student exhibited symptoms of the advanced flu strain late last week. Lab tests confirmed the student was infected with a less dangerous flu variation.

"This good news means that our students may resume their academics and the many activities planned for Holmes Junior High and for Holmes students in districtwide activities can be held as planned," Hammond said.

Despite the false alarm, Iser warns more incidents may arise.

"We may get other cases at this school, and we may get many other cases before this is all over."

Cases of the H1N1 flu forced the closures of three other campuses in Sacramento, Linden and Camino.
