KNIGHTS LANDING, CA - Knights Landing's sole school is scheduled to close after this school year.
Grafton Elementary School, which serves student in kindergarten through sixth grade, is in the Woodland Joint Unified School District. District trustees made the decision to shutter the school with less than 140 students to help bridge a $7 million budget gap.
Grafton serves mostly the children of farmworkers. The district plan is for them to be bused 16 miles away to Plainfield Elementary in Woodland.
Parents are scheduled to meet with school board members next Wednesday about Grafton's closing.
Knights Landing, with about 1,100 residents, is in Yolo County on the Sacramento River.
