SACRAMENTO, CA - Kimm Ponce-Brown got to the job fair at McClellan Park in Sacramento early on Tuesday morning. So did more than 2,000 other job seekers.

"I got here at 10 this morning," said Ponce-Brown. "People were already starting to get out of their cars and line up."

That line continued to grow until the doors opened at noon. "The line is just unreal," said Ponce-Brown. "It's very scary. I've been out of work since September and it's bad. Just looking at this line alone tells you how bad."

Dozens of employers including Aflac, PG&E and Wells Fargo were accepting applications at the event.

Applicants were asked to bring plenty of resumes and to be ready to be interviewed at the event.

Ponce-Brown worked as a mortgage insuring specialist for a mortgage company prior to being laid off. "I've been in the work force for over 20 plus years and have never seen this before. I've never been faced with a layoff," she said.

Ponce-Brown is online every day looking for jobs. "I'm constantly sending out resumes," she said. "I would be willing to take anything at this point. You know I've been out of work long enough where I just really have to humble myself and take whatever I can so I can bring home a paycheck."

Last month, Rite Aid stores had huge success filling positions for three of their stores during a similar event in Stockton. In fact, they met so many well qualified candidates, they referred them to stores in other regions for possible employment.

Job seekers who could not attend recent job fairs are encouraged to visit http://www.jobjournal.com/. The Web site lists additional job openings that accept applications.

A future event is planned for March 11 in Fairfield.
