SACRAMENTO, CA - The man in charge of medical care for Sacramento County Jail inmates has bailed out of jail on suspicion of writing bogus prescription for OxyContin, a powerful prescription painkiller.
Dr. Peter Dietrich, who serves as Medical Director of Correctional Health Services for the jail was arrested Wednesday morning, according to Michelle Gregory with the California Department of Justice, Bureau of Narcotics Enforcement.
Drug agents have been investigating Dietrich since July 2008, said Gregory. Search warrants were conducted at his home, office and for his vehicle.
Gregory said investigators were still trying to determine where most of the OxyContin went. She said they believe Dietrich may have been using the drug.
Dietrich has been placed on paid administrative leave.
