SACRAMENTO, CA - Not only do investigators not know the identity of a bicyclist struck and fatally injured early Saturday morning but they have little information about the vehicle that hit him. Officer Lizz Dutton with the California Highway Patrol says the victim, a young Hispanic man was riding his bike in an unknown direction on Watt Avenue just south of Karl Drive at 12:52 a.m. when a vehicle traveling in the northbound direction struck him. Dutton said apparently the driver of the vehicle drove off without stopping. Moments later a driver going northbound on Watt saw a figure laying in the road and called 911. The victim was transported to Mercy San Juan Medical Center with severe injuries, said Dutton. He died from his injuries on Tuesday. The man's bike had minor damage consistent with falling to the ground rather than being hit by a vehicle, Dutton said. Anyone who witnessed the incident or thinks they know the victim's identity is asked to get in contact with the CHP at (916) 338-6710.
