SACRAMENTO, CA - The security guard who gave mayoral candidate Kevin Johnson an after-hours tour of the mayor and city council office area has been reassigned. City of Sacramento Director of General Services Reina Schwartz said the city has launched an investigation into the visit. Steve Maviglio, Johnson's campaign manager, said that just before 5 p.m. on Saturday the candidate was outside City Hall with his driver looking at an area planned for a rally when a security guard approached him and struck up a conversation. Maviglio said Johnson asked the guard to give him a tour of city hall. "It was no big deal," said Maviglio. "It's a public building there should be nothing that Mayor Fargo has to hide." But Mayor Heather Fargo, who is running against Johnson, said Monday that she thinks it's a very big deal because Johnson was not only in public areas, but was in the private mayor and council office area. "I think that's troubling, I think that's suspicious, I think it's inappropriate," said Fargo. While Fargo called the visit a "security breach," Maviglio said the security guard was with Johnson the entire time. Councilman Rob Fong, a Fargo supporter, said he was in his office with his son on Saturday. "When I heard the security door to the inner offices open, I thought it was one of my colleagues," said Fong. "It was shocking to see Johnson. He rushed over to me and asked, 'what are you doing here?' It was just weird." Fong said the visit was a breach of protocol. "He shouldn't have been in the building, much less the council offices," he said. The Sacramento Police Department looked at surveillance tapes of Johnson inside City Hall and determined no crime had been committed. The tapes were not released on Monday. "We're reviewing the tapes and the access logs and just making sure we know what we need to do to keep security tight at our City Hall," said Schwartz.
