LAUSANNE, Switzerland (AP) -- International officials have cleared China's Olympic gold medal gymnasts of lying about their age.

The international gymnastics federation Wednesday closed their 5 1/2-week investigation into the ages of the Chinese gymnasts at the Beijing Olympics.

Officials say that the documentation provided to them confirms that this year's gymnasts were old enough to compete.

The International Olympic Committee had asked for an inquiry after questions had been raised about their ages.

However, the gymnastics federation says it continues to investigate the ages of Chinese gymnasts who competed in the 2000 Sydney Olympics, particularly Dong Fangxiao and Yang Yun.

The federation says the explanations and evidence provided so far to verify the girls' ages are not satisfactory.

Gymnasts must turn 16 during the Olympic year to compete.
