Biography: Jennifer Smith

Jennifer Smith is a veteran broadcaster who has been with the station since 1980.

Jennifer's reporting assignments have taken her to Europe, Mexico, Egypt and the Philippines.  She's reported live from presidential inaugurations, political conventions, and the California visits of Pope John Paul II and Queen Elizabeth. She has also produced several special projects and series.

During Jennifer's tenure as anchor of News10 at 6 p.m., the show was recognized with two regional Emmy Awards in the "Best Newscast" category. It also received awards from  the Associated Press and the Radio and Television News Directors Association for the best newscast in California as well as the National Headliners Award for best half-hour newscast in the country.

Jennifer has also been recognized by area business and professional clubs as Young Career Woman of the Year and Woman of the Year. Before coming to News10, Jennifer worked as a reporter and anchor at WSET in Lynchburg, Virginia and WWBT in Richmond, Virginia.

She graduated with honors from Lynchburg College with a bachelor of arts degree in political science and international relations. Jennifer has served as a member of the board of directors for the Family Service Agency of Sacramento and has taught a course in television at the University of California, Davis.  She is active in numerous community projects and charities.Jennifer and her husband, former Sacramento Symphony Music Director and Conductor Carter Nice, live in Sacramento with their daughter Olivia.
