Woman hits power poles and overturns, bringing live power lines down on her car on Grant Line Road, Oct. 14, 2013
SACRAMENTO COUNTY, CA - It could have been much worse.
A driver on her way home from work hit three power poles and rolled her car at Grant Line Road just north of Sunrise Boulevard about 7:18 Monday evening, according to the California Highway Patrol. The impact pulled live electrical lines down onto her car, leaving burn holes in the car's undercarriage.
CHP on scene said not opening her door probably saved the woman's life.
She suffered a broken arm and minor injuries.
The downed power lines cut power to approximately 220 SMUD customers. The utility said it would take several hours to restore electricity.
The lines also sparked five small spot grass fires, the CHP said. Sacramento Metro fire crews responded.
According to the preliminary CHP investigation, it did not appear alcohol or drugs were involved.
Grant Line and Sunrise have been reopened.
