With the launch of Covered California, many residents have questions and concerns regarding enrollment. Following are three important pieces of advice provided by Covered California to protect your privacy during the enrollment process:
Protect your information during enrollment. If someone asks for personal information, such as a social security number, call the Service Center or email consumerprotection.covered.ca.gov to verify their certification.
Only trust certified helpers; be wary of anyone you don't know or trust approaching you with aggressive sales tactics, like demanding payment or offering "limited time specials" or threats of "jail time" if you don't buy insurance.
Enrollment assistance is always free of charge, so don't give money for enrollment assistance. If you accept assistance, keep a record of who helped you.
Covered California urges anyone who feels they may be a victim of fraud to immediately contact their offices at (800) 300-1506 or by email to email@example.com.
