SACRAMENTO, CA - A mother was arrested in connection to the death of her young daughter who was found at a Sacramento apartment complex Thursday afternoon.
The child was identified by the Sacramento County coroner on Friday as 5-year-old Tatiana Garcia. The cause of death wasn't revealed.
UPDATE: Police visited mother's home hours before 5-year-old's death
Officers were called to the Shore Park Apartments on the 7900 block of Pocket Road around 2:35 p.m. to check on the welfare of 29-year-old Aquelin Talamantes' daughter, Sacramento police said. Relatives called police after Talamantes arrived at a relative's apartment without the little girl.
At the scene, after officers talked to family members and Talamantes, they found the 5-year-old girl unresponsive in the trunk of Talamantes' car. Officers and Good Samaritans began CPR on the girl. She was then transported to a nearby hospital where she later died.
The investigation led officers to Talamantes' home on the 5100 block of Glide Drive in Davis, across the street from Pioneer Park. Police said investigators believe the Davis home is where the girl was hurt.
Davis police and Sacramento police served a search warrant at the home and continued to process it for evidence.
Talamantes was arrested at the Sacramento apartment complex. She is being held for murder and was to be booked into Yolo County Jail.
