ROSEVILLE, Calif. - A man in his 20s was killed Tuesday morning when he was struck by a garbage truck while riding his bike on Roseville Road.
According to Officer Lizz Dutton of the California Highway Patrol, the cyclist was traveling southbound on the northbound shoulder of Roseville Rd. before 6:30 a.m. when he crossed in front of the oncoming truck. The driver tried to avoid the cyclist but struck the man.
The cyclist was not wearing a helmet and sustained severe head trauma from the collision. He was transported to Mercy San Juan hospital where he was pronounced dead a short while later, said Dutton.
Dutton said the collision occurred while it was still dark outside but the truck had its headlights on.
