SACRAMENTO, CA - A Sacramento-area woman convicted of torturing and beating her fiance's daughter was sentenced to 16 years, four months in prison in Sacramento Superior Court Thursday.
Duewa Lee was found guilty by jurors in July of torture, two counts of mayhem, six counts of beating a child with use of deadly weapons and infliction of great bodily injury and two counts of child abuse.
The girl was 12 years old at the time. The abuse took place over several months in 2011. The father was incarcerated.
The girl testified Lee hit her with electrical cords, put a hot iron on her back and a hot spatula on her buttocks, stapled her ear, threw her downstairs, stomped on her chest and abdomen and wouldn't let her eat, according to the Sacramento County District Attorney's Office. The girl suffered life-threatening injuries and was left with some permanent disfigurement.
The abuse came to light when the girl confided in a stranger when she and Lee were at a Department of Motor Vehicles office and Lee had stepped outside. The stranger told authorities.
